Colorado Springs Sports Companies Earning High Marks

As the world watched in awe during this year’s 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, fingerprints throughout the events can be traced back to Colorado Springs. In addition to having many of its own residents competing as Team USA athletes, Colorado’s second-largest city also boasts several of the nation’s top sports organizations, including the United States Olympic Committee and the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

With so much talent concentrated in Colorado Springs, it’s no surprise that there are a myriad of local companies strengthening the city’s sports culture and its athletes. Check out some of the major businesses and organizations that set “Olympic City USA” apart as a leader in sports industry performance:

Products for Athletes by Athletes

Athletes have a number of unique Colorado Springs companies to thank for access to some of the most innovative sports gear. The local Rocky Mountain landscape and temperate climate is the perfect year-round testing ground for sports-related product development. That means that your new bike components bought from Colorado Springs home-grown companies were designed and tested by someone who is out on the trails every day. From innovative recreational devices like Angletech Cycles and Borealis Fat Bikes, to SRM PowerMeter’s small gadgets, there’s no shortage of hands-on experience to help sports-minded individuals reach peak performance.

Trustworthy Manufacturing

Colorado Springs has long been a leader in advanced manufacturing, including products for sports applications. Area manufacturers take advantage of low utility costs and taxes, and leading technologies to produce high-performance sports equipment. Dual-sport paralympian and Titan Robotics mechanical engineer Allison Jones uses her experience in the field to 3D-print adaptive devices to help other para-athletes improve their performance.

Another area manufacturer utilizing advanced 3D-printing technologies is MotoMinded, which makes custom and large production motorbike parts and gear. Its owner also gives back to the Colorado Springs manufacturing community through two local maker groups, contributing to the wealth of sports-minded manufacturing knowledge found in the area.

Health & Gold-Medal Wellness

In addition to these high-performing companies, there are numerous centers of wellness that keep athletes healthy and at the top of their game. The Colorado Center of Orthopedic Excellence, for example, is the official orthopedic medicine provider to the Colorado Springs U.S. Olympic Training Center, while UC Health Memorial Hospital also boasts the honor of being the center’s official hospital.

Perhaps most impressive of all is the Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center, which will break ground in late 2018 on the University of Colorado Colorado Springs’ west campus. The state-of-the-art center will provide an array of services and functions, including performance clinics and testing, counseling, education and research facilities, and environmental health labs; and will cater to athletes, military and other community service members.

A Reason to Relocate

Some of the biggest names in sports have moved their headquarters to Colorado Springs to be part of the city’s athletic community. In 2016, the International Cricket Council moved its Americas regional headquarters from Toronto to Colorado Springs, citing the opportunity of joining the “significant national sports network” centered in the city. A year earlier, USA Synchro, the national governing body for the sport of synchronized swimming, relocated to Colorado Springs for similar reasons. USA Ultimate heralded the city as being “chock-full” of industry expertise from some of the best in the business.

Perhaps the greatest evidence of Colorado Springs’ strong sports culture are the national governing bodies—such as USA Basketball—that have kept their permanent home in Colorado Springs over decades of success. Attracted to Colorado Sprigs for its reputation in sports excellence, these organizations strengthen the diversity of our sports community.

In Colorado Springs, we embody the spirit and drive of the Olympic Games year-round. As the world heralds the outstanding display of athletic talent at each Olympics, you can count on Colorado Springs’s athletes, coaches, organizations, gear and innovative ideas having a share in the spotlight.
