Colorado Springs: an epicenter for military space
The right assets
The defense community is buzzing with speculation about where U.S. Space Command’s headquarters will go. The excitement in Colorado Springs is reaching palpable levels, and for good reason. The region is already home to many space assets, including Air Force Space Command, two of the Air Force’s five space wings (21st Space Wing at Peterson AFB and 50th Space Wing at Schriever AFB), the Air Force Reserve’s 310th Space Wing, and the Army’s Missile Defense Command.
Not to mention that the Space Foundation – also based here – hosts the Space Symposium in Colorado Springs each year. It’s the space industry’s must-attend event of the year, serving as one of the largest catalysts for government and private sector partnerships.
The right connections
Speaking of the private sector, the top aerospace and defense contractors have set up shop here. Think Boeing, Harris, Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman, and Raytheon – just to name a few, because an impressive 240 aerospace and defense contractors have a major presence here. This special synergy only exists in Colorado Springs.
