The game changing Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center
Known as Olympic City USA, Colorado Springs boasts an extensive sports industry that is home to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, two international sports federations and the headquarters of 24 National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs). Nonetheless, the city’s culture of achievement, rich history, and endless outdoor opportunities are still on the rise with the development of the Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center currently underway.
About the revolutionary development
The Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center officially broke ground in October 2018 and is expected to reach fruition in the summer of 2020. The 104,000-square foot center, designed by RTA Architects and constructed by JE Dunn, will be comprised of lecture halls, classrooms, medical care, and sports performance work. It will also be the first of its kind to unite undergraduate and graduate education with clinical practice and research in sports medicine. This unique innovation is thanks to a partnership between the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and Penrose St. Francis Centura Health.
In conjunction with the City for Champions campaign, the new center will feature a sports medicine and performance testing facility, a variety of clinical services, research and instruction for a variety of fields and more. Upon completion, the new sports and performance center is expected to set a national standard for the care of injured athletes, Paralympians, military veterans and wounded first-responders.
What the center means for Colorado Springs
The Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center is projected to have a profound economic impact on the Colorado Springs economy through education, employment, and health care opportunities. The state-of-the-art center will also be an attractive force for out-of-state patients who are seeking sports-related healthcare. “These facilities will also create new jobs, further bolster our strong sports economy and cement our national reputation as Olympic City USA,” said Mayor John Suthers.
