A look at careers in the new Space Force

Colorado Springs will house the U.S. Space Command for the next six years, showering our region with job opportunities to launch your next career. The logical site for this new command, Colorado Springs is already home to several military space operations including the 50th Space Wing, which operates more than 185 military satellites.

The re-establishment of USSPACECOM in Colorado Springs returns the headquarters to a community that is a well-oiled machine supporting military personnel and their families, including a high concentration of aerospace & defense employers, and a wide spectrum of related university programs and degrees. Additionally, there are six active-duty military installations in Colorado with infrastructure in place to house the headquarters. The opportunities for a new career in Colorado Springs are endless.

Space Force Careers

One of the reasons Colorado Springs is the perfect location for USSPACECOM is the high number of US Space Force operational units here. Space Force is looking for recruits with a degree in many STEM fields and backgrounds including cyber-technology and intelligence. Members of the nation’s newest military branch will focus on five key technical areas: space operations, space engineering, space intelligence, space acquisition and science, and space cyber. It’s important to note that jobs are more likely to involve computer monitors than space shuttles, but take a peek for yourself with the United States Space Force’s new recruitment video.

At full strength, the Space Force is expected to have about 15,000 personnel with most transferred into the Space Force from separate departments such as the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Wondering what tasks may fall on your plate in the Space Force? The service has already aided with the nation’s coronavirus response, protecting the missions of the Navy’s hospital ships Mercy and Comfort, operating on the East and West coasts in support of the COVID-19 pandemic response.
